Crank- Ellen Hopkins

crank by Ellen Hopkins is a story about a once perfect teenage girl. Kristina, an honor student, obeyed her parents, until during the summer, her father, who had been divorced from her mother, wanted her to spend a few weeks with him. her mother reluctantly allows it and she goes to stay with her dad for two weeks, and "things would never be the same" (11). Her father has a bit of a checkered past and was heavy into drugs. she said she wouldn't do it. "i promised. swore. crossed my heart. recited the D.A.R.E. pledge verbatim" (11). After about a week, he gets her hooked on "the monster," or crystal meth.

discussion questions:

1. why would Kristina decide to do crystal meth?

2. do you think she will ever quit?
